Thumbs up

That bike should be fine for a longer trip. How long are you thinking? A magnetic tank bag and a tail bag with the bungee straps built in to hook to your bike should give you enough space for several days w/o having to do laundry and if you're using hotels. If you're camping, that's another story. You might also look into a throttle lock so you can give your right hand a rest on occasion.

From your location, a ride over to Banff, Lake Louise, and the glaciers up by Jasper would be mandatory. Then, if you have time, continue west out of Lake Louise over towards Vancouver. That's a beautiful mountain ride all by itself. You live near some of the most beautiful scenery in North America! I'm jealous!

Not yet

Seeing as I just got my 2000 500r I have not yet had the priviledge to take it on a good long ride. No doubt I will be able to soon because one of my friends at work has a Kawa Concourse that he rides often on long trips. Maybe soon I'll venture out with him.

You should not have any problem. My ex wife has one and we would take week long trips on our bikes with her not having any problems. She had a tank bag and then would stap a bag onto the back. Have a good trip.

I had a Ex 500, that was quite a lot older than your 500r (1987), and I found the seat to be uncomfortable. I never really went on a long trip, but I put over 600 km on in a day the odd time. The bike had 40,000 km so I dont know if maybe the padding was worn or what, but my a$$ got really sore! It probably doesn't help that I'm 200+ pounds.

so SHAWPICK, have you done the mountain ride yet??

I have biked the Jasper/ Banff hwy myself..... on a 10 speed. It is one of the highways I feel everyone should ride once in their life. I've driven it several times but haven't done it on motorbike yet ... but I will.
