Duc or Triumph?

I'm really getting interested in either of these two bikes:
2009 Sprint ST or a 2009 Ducati Monster 1100. I realize these are somewhat different rides. The Sprint is probably more practical but the Duc
has my thrill factor. The Duc costs a bit more. Am wondering about maintenance costs, insurance. have both dealerships nearby. I presently have a 95 BMW 1100 RS, which is totally a great ride and has been a loyal
faithful ride. Have owned it 11 years and am ready for a new thrill. The BMW dealer is also the Duc dealer. Any thoughts from owners of these bikes.

For the insurance I'd just give the agent a call and see what the difference is. Could be quite large and make the decision for you. Have VINs from, say, Ebay ready so they can quickly ID the bike. I'm a closet ducatista so my choice would be obvious but I really don't know about the maint between the two. I do know that Duc's tend to need valve clearances set more often than the Big Four, but that's about it.

So did you ever settle on one or the other? I'm always curious to see how these internal debates pan out....
