Dunlop D218 on 2004 GSX-R 600

I just got the 2004 GSX-R 600 and the rear tire, which still has pleanty of thread left, has a plug in it.... Shall i replace it or shall i keep on riding it ?

The rear tire is (i believe) what comes stock on these bikes - Dunlop D218 180/55ZR17...

Also, can you please tell me what's a good tire to replace it with?

Thank you in advance.....

Get off that plugged tire today!!

It is not safe to plug a motorcycle tire. The carcass of a Motorcycle tire flexes far more than a car tire does, and therefore will cause the plug to loosen and fail. I have permanent scars on my body from a plugged tire failing.

I would replace it with a D208ZR or a Dunlop Qualifier. The 208 has been replaced by the new Qualifier, but is still a great tire if you can find them.

Whatever you do, get off that plugged tire.

Look into buying race takeoffs. There are tons of threads here discussing the pros and cons of takeoffs, but I have run them for years and have saved a ton of money going that route.

Cycle Gear has one day sale special may 19, Pirelli Diablo pair $159. Cant go wrong. Plug type matters. Car type usually alright at everyday speeds, but these and mushroom plugs can be cut by cords, internal automotive patches are good but require dismount, patch remount, rebalance.
