I thought I was done with the Marines, but I got called right before Christmas, the friday before, and told to go to Camp Lejeune, NC. I checked the weather and it was going to be clear but a little cool, and decided to ride the bike there from Texas. I had new tires and everything seemed to be in good working order. I left the house this past friday evening and only went a couple hundred miles and spent the evening with my grandparents in NE Texas. Next morning I headed out. I deciced to go the northern route through Arkansas, Tennesse, and western North Carolina. Although the weather was a little cool, it was a beautiful ride through the mountains.
On the second day of the trip, I noticed the tire starting to square off a little. In the morning, there was very little tread left in the center of the tire. I stopped to look at my map after about thirty miles. I looked at my rear tire and saw thread.
I had seen a Honda bike shop about twenty miles before and went back there to get a new tire. The only tire they had in stock that would fit my bike was a Dunlop racing tire. So that's what I got. The shi-tty tire that wore out on me was a Podium. I liked the way it rode, but it didn't even last 2k miles
. I guess that's why the dealer I bought it from gave me such a good deal. He told me they weren't going to stock them any more. BTW, I ride a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST. I have the top box and was using Teknic tank bag and saddlebags. The bike was comfortable, compliant, and averaged 50+ mpg.
