My 1995 VFR has 79,800 miles on it, all mine. I generally put about 15,000 miles a year on bikes. Currently I also have a GL1500 Goldwing and a 750 Yamaha Maxim. The bike I traded for the VFR was a Concours with 70,000 on it in 4 years.

High Mileage

Well, my ST1100 has 113,000 miles, my new VFR has 600 miles, my KLR has 11,000 (many on "unimproved" roads, and my Superhawk has 6,000 miles. The 98 VFR I just sold had 28,000 miles; the 94 before that had 26,000. I had a Hawk GT from 91 til 98 and it had 34,000 miles, and my Concours that was traded for the ST had 76,000 miles in 1/92 when it left. I slipped 6,000 on a DR350 in one year in 96 and 10,000 on a CB650 Nighthawk one year (1990).

I put a bunch of miles on several little Hondas in the late 60's and early 70's. I managed over 100,000 on an HD, 25,000 on a Triumph (many of those on foot, too), and 70,000 on a 750 Honda and 25K more on a GS750 in the 80's (pre-Concours).

I guess I'm slowing down in my old age. I have vowed to stand in parking lots less this year (teaching folks to ride) and to ride more.

Do dirtbike miles count?

Did you ever drive a car just once in your life? That is 530,600 total miles. I know that you didn't log them all yourself but, damn!

I've got right about 92,000. Unfortuanately that figure hasn't changed for a couple of months here in Northern Minnesota. Next month I suppose I plan on having 100,000 by the three year mark on it. Zero trouble with the engine. The tranny was replaced around 45,000. But, I suppose that could have been expected.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, let's see. I do own and operate a pickup truck. It gets about 10,000 a year. Those are all my miles on those bikes as I was only counting the ones that I put on them if they were used........and I didn't include all the miles I put on the little bikes back in the 60's and 70's. I'd guess there to be another 50 to 60K there.

All one has to do is use his/her bike for transportation and dedicate travel to riding and then do it for 35 years and voila, next thing you know, you're approaching that million mile mark. I know professional truck drivers that have millions of miles under their belts.

The downside is that every time I go to trade or sell one of my bikes, potenetial buyers are put off by the miles regardless of the normally good condition it's in. One does become proficient at maintenance when riding frequently. For example, I figure the ST1100 I have with 113,000+ miles will be a give away when its time comes, so at theis pont, it's easier just to keep it. It has and continues to serve me well.

I have 19k on my r1, bought it last august. I know several guys in www.r1-forum.com have 90k miles on their r1's, i think they have had the transmission rebuilt thou.

From riding yamahas, i can understand why the transmission was the first to go. IT SUCKS.

I thought it was a lot of miles (till now) . The bike only had the breakin miles done on it when I bought it. It also had a couple of years down time while I was overseas. But that was a past life .
