96 Gsxr 1100

Anyone own a GSXR 1100???

With the unfortunate death of my car, I will no longer be able to get the new bike I so richly deserve. However, while I was out droolling over the new toys, a 96 gixer 1100 caught my eye.

The price of $5000. Canadian (approx. 3200 US) seems almost too good for a clean bike with only 24,000 km (12,000 mi) on it.

Is the Gixer a comfortable hiway bike, is it a heavy pig in town? What can you tell me about this model? I'm looking for something to put alot of hiway miles on, but still easy to ride in the city. ( my 750 is just too cramped for my old legs/knees).

Any comments would be appreciated, thanks

I don't think the older Gixxers are particularly known for their comfort...but some people have different levels of discomfort. If you really are planning on putting on lots of highway/sport-touring miles you might want to look at something with a little better erros, yet sporty. Once bike that would fit the bill for someone on a budget would be a Suzuki RF900. Kind of hard to find, but a great budget sport-tourer.

Thanks for the reply

I expect the ergos to be simular to my 88 gixer, probably more room, w/ going to a bigger bike. I'm just curious about handling and over all opinions.......especially from people who have owned one.

until my car gave up I was seriously considerng a CBR1100XX or a 'Busa ( the 2001 is a real deal right now). Too bad I need the car for work, and I need work for bike,, sigh, life's not fair.

I love those GSXR1100s and would LOVE to own one!!
I recall reading a review of them and tho' the ergos aren't GSX1100 Katana-like they weren't all that bad,and apparently better than a GSXR750 ergos.

never rode one but for the price it's a steal. Get it and if it's too uncomf. you can easily get your money back out later. Also, if you have an 88 750 I doubt the 1100 is worse for ergos but it ought to be pretty obvious to sit on it and see if you're leaning on your wrists worse or better??

Friday, after talking to a friend at a local Suzuki shop, I went to purchase it. IT WAS SOLD!!! Shit. It went for $4750 plus 7% tax ie $5082.50 (or $3200. US) it even had new tires!!!

I guess I'll just have wait. My bike works great, and there's alway another deal around the corner (that's what my brain tells me, but it's still sucks.). The problem is spring seems to be early this year, and what little snow we had is melting fast. I've already seen tons of bikes out on the road.

I wonder if getting a brand new 'Busa or Blackbird is grounds for divorce.
