Superstock and Superbike lap times and average speeds
I was looking at the AMA superbike site and found some interesting statistics. In the Daytona 200 Superbike race, the race time was 106:51.49 minutes; the winner's average speed was 113.938mph: the winner's average lap time was 1:52.482 minutes; and the second place average speed was 113.812mph.
In the Superstock race held on Friday, the race time was 22:05.897 minutes; the winner's average speed was 115.991mph; the winner's average lap time was 1:50.491 minutes; and the second place average speed was 115.99mph.
I realize that the Superbike race was MUCH longer than the Superstock race and the riders had to pace themselves, make pit stops, and preserve their tires. But the bikes in Superstock went faster and it was a better race than Superbike. I was really impressed with the R1 (as well as the ZX10R). Yamaha ought to put together a Superbike factory team. Maybe next year.
