Question 2003 MotoGP

OK...who do you think the top 5 riders will be in the '03 season of MotoGP....

My Pic is...
1. Rossi - The boy is a FREAK! and his team don't know how to lose.

2. Biaggi - Its gonna be close now that he has a honda.

3. Bayliss - He may be slower in testing than Capirossi, but when the flag drops, BAYLISS ROCKS!!!!

4. Barros - Not enough good Yamaha riders to help Barros with bike development...so he's back to 4th.

5. Capirossi - Good consistency but won't outride an undeveloped bike as well as Bayliss.

Riders to watch I think will be Colin Edwards, and also McWilliams and Aoki on the new Proton.

Joke of the year will be Nicky Hayden, (Why Honda put him in the seat over Edwards is anyone's guess.)

rossi will be good again (and win again).

i like suzuki's chances, big improvements, i see roberts or hopkins getting just outside the top 5.

i think barros will be the only non-honda rider in the top 5. hayden won't be a joke, but i don't think he'll take it by storm either. i think he is lucky to never have had to ride a real gp bike. i'll admit, the motogp bikes are faster, but you could see how hard riding the 500 was.

I think Honda is trying to tap the US market by riding the popularity of Hayden. If you think about it, put Edwards in GP, what to do with Hayden? He told Honda he was going to ride in Europe this year with or with out Honda. With no factory WSB team for Hayden, its GP he walks.

We all know how Rossi will probably win the thing again, but I'm curious as to what people expect from Hayden.

For instance, for a rookie, John Hopkins had a GREAT year.
He may have never challenged for the lead, but c'mon what did people expect?

Look at Haga's rookie year. The only tracks he ran up front were tracks he knew from his WSB days (Philip Island,Donington, Assen)

I'm gonna cut the kid some slack. Give him a few years (wait till he's 24)

It's a shame that some guys can ride at the top level for years, not win a championship, and they still get respect while people are already willing to call Hayden a loser if he's not champion by 2005.

To win at the top level takes time and experience .

top 5:

1 & 2. rossi/Barros (maybe in this order maybe not)

3. biaggi (his favorate place to be at the end of the year!)

4. maybe nakano

5. ukawa

this year is going to be so friggin close it's hard to say, any of the following guys could be in the top 5:
mcCoy
kato
roberts
hopkins
capirossi
bayliss
haga
edwards...

anyone in the whole friggin seres other than burns, aoki, waldmann and pitt (i like pitt but from SS to GP, bit of a curve to finish top 5) could finish in the top 5!!

the thing you have to consider is that the guys you mentioned were getting on 2 strokes not 4. that is a big difference!

Good point about the 2-stroke vs 4 stroke thing.

Both Hopkins and Haga raced 250 2 strokes when they were just starting out, but I guess a 500GP 2 stroke is a whole 'nuther animal.

I guess my point was not to expect alot from a racer in new surroundings.

oh, i agree 110% since hayden has really limited track time on only a couple of the tracks and edwards has to get used to all new comotion not to mention a bunch of new tracks

I've never seen a rider with the resolve of Colin Edwards - he did the nearly impossible this year - do not piss him off!

Hagasan is my hero.
