2003 ama superbike champion.

well, the bench racing must start.

rumor mill says yamaha is out and kawasaki will field eric bostrom (maybe?).

so who's your pick for the 2003 championship?

i had to vote for anthony gobert. the guy is too good to never win one of these.

i think a healthy kurtis could pull off the upset.

i know ben bostrom is the odds-on favorite, but i think it'll take a lot to win a second championship for the guy who really stayed off drugs and off the ground to win his prior one.

or eric. i think if they didn't have to work out the new ohlins suspension early on, he'd be defending ama champ right now. but i don't know if the series will be his real focus. i know it wouldn't be mine. hopefully for eric, we can put andrew pitt's name here and eric's on the motogp poll. but maybe holding him out is better in the long run. no use getting him comfortable with 16th place.

or maybe mladin??? his getting some horses and some cc's...

i think chandler may win one of the races on a 954 superbike. i think he has the talent and if they field a one-off bike for the event...he could do it. brainard (sp?) maybe?

How are the rules shaping up, CAN you bore out a 750 to the max 1000 cc's (as if the block could take that big a change) or what? And if you can should Zooki bore the GSXR750 (better chassis IMO) or go with the 1000???

Gobert's a mad man on the Duc. He would have contended for the last 2 if he hadn't been hurt in both of them. So long as he stays healthy this year he's my pick.

If it started life as a 750 then it can have a 2mm overbore and regular superbike rules after that(ie, pretty much unlimited). The 1000cc bikes have to keep certain OEM parts inside(ie, most of the valve train).

Doug Chandler will be interesting to watch on the 1000cc Superbike.

i also understand that the 1000cc bikes will have to keep the stock crank. for the 954, this may not be that bad. but that big, long gsx-r crank should make it a handling nightmare.

as for the valve pieces, one more reason you won't see the big gsx-r racing superbike with a factory effort.

anyone else find it odd that neither mladin nor duhamel has been picked? sure, last season wasn't good for either. but duhamel is the winnest rider in the class and mladin is 3 for 4 in the last superbike championships.

edit: oops, some took duhamel...

I am confident that B-Boz will take it this year. Going from WSB to AMA...he's going to be unstoppable.

My 2 cents

If he has something suitable under him I can't see anyone beating Eric Bostrom, he allmost had it this year, give him a better bike and he'll have it.
