Question "Best of"

Thought this might be interesting so we'll see how it goes.

Name a music category/genre/whatever and the pinnacle performer/group belonging to it. Naturally this is opinion based so I personally don't care what MTV or VH1 thinks.

I'll start.

Classical music, Baroque - Johan Sebastian Bach (aka JS Bach)

Since you're shooting for the Pinnacle of a genre, instead of the most influential (aka oldest band you can think of). My own personal view is that in order to be the pinnacle of a genre, you not only had to bring the sound to the masses, but you also had to stay true to your roots and put out such a good album that it almost transcends genre.

Punk: Rancid

Rap: Snoop Dog

Metal: Metallica

Jazz: Miles Davis

Country: Johnny Cash

These aren't my personal favorites (Except for Rancid and Johnny Cash)

there's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
it's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
and like fools we trust the delivery
but it's all just drunk sincerity
