Thumbs up New Music

There is some great music out right now, has anyone else noticed this? It seems like rock is coming back to the forefront of the music scene. Bands like Tantric (Especially awesome - the whole albulm is good), Nickel Back, Linkin Park, Staind, Default and about a 1/2 dozen other new faces all have new material well worth listening too.

Is it just me or is something changing here?

I don't seem to be in touch musically as much as I used to. Growing up in the punk scene, we pretty much eschewed anything heard on mainstream radio, and I retain that habit still. I don't think I've heard anything from any of the bands you mentioned.

I don't live completely in a vacuum, however. I really dig Radiohead and PJ Harvey, the first Rage album, pre-sellout Metallica...a bunch of others.

I guess the way I look at it, and this is just my opinion, is if a bunch of jock frat boys dig it, it won't have much musical value for me. Elitist or arrogant? Yep. But now that I own a mini-van, it's all I have left.

It doesn't have to be fun to be "fun".

changes

Yeah Chris, you are right! Rock is definitely heading in the right direction. The Tantric album is great, I esp. like #11(Hate Me)...great song. The Staind CD is another great one...all the songs. I am into some hardcore as well, such as Project 86 and P.O.D. Project 86 is definitely my favorite though...great stuff there!

P.S. Don't hate me, but I really enjoy ALL of Creed's CDs...Esp. the first and their latest.

Thumbs up

Yep Chris, you're right! The quality seems alot better lately. I have always thought that the music of the 60s was so much better than now and that the artists of today have but 1/10th of the talent of their 60s peers.

I feel that rock music has always been there as a forerunner. It has just taken a newer shape. It used to be some harder drums and some electric and you just went at it, (Beetles, Presley). Then took a more orchestra like form, (Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd). More electric effects and drama were put in as technology evelved, (Whitesnake, and others like them). Then slowly evolved into a harder form called metal. We had bands like Metallica, Pantera, etc. Now a form called alternative is introduced. We had the trend of bands such as Nirvanna, Foo Fighters, Green Day, etc.

From these and other forms (ska, indutrial, rap, R&B) We have the newer rock.

I like what has become of the evolution of rock.
Music is constantly developing and forming new styles.

please don't take offense, everybody likes something diferent, but I can't stand a lot of the music out today. If I hear one more screaming, whining about how bad my life is, I hate everyone and everything, song by yet another band with turntables, two guitars, two + vocalists, a bassist and an 808, a drum machine and a drummer, I might puke. It's not just rock, though- what passes for hip-hop and R&B these days is gut-wrenchingly terrible with a few exceptions.

Don't get me wrong, I do like some new stuff; maybe I'm just getting older. It's bad when you think the "good old days" are the late 80's and early 90's.

That's exactly why I like the new music out right now. It isn't like that whining my life sucks crap. It seems to be geared more towards living life the way you want to and life philosophy.

Nick, yeah!! Hate Me is a great song.
