Question Comfort and Safety?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for ideas on riding in the Heat.. I live in Tempe, AZ and right now it's about 105 but feels like 115 when riding in the city.

I currently ride of course w/ Helmet and Mesh JoeRocket jacket - but damnit if I feel like passing out sometimes due to the heat and not to mention dripping from head to toe w/ sweat.

My hair is also down past my waist and I keep it braided, but gets pretty nasty after riding for a while..

any ideas will be helpful.. Thanks!

holy CRAP... i have this one!

living in the "valley of the sun" takes some adaptive behavior.

i do at least 1, sometimes 2 weekends at the track every month, yes... even in the summer. i have found it pays to hydrate WELL in advance... pack plenty of sunblock, wear a flipping hat when the helmet is off AND pore ice water in your leathers right after you zip them up. it's REFRESHING and I'M SURE IT MAKES ME FASTER. nothing like ice water all the way to the corn-hole to wake ya up and light the fire of competition.

or you could get the under-mesh vest from joe rocket. whichever makes you happiest. me, i like the ice water.

If a bloke did this he'd choke on his NUTS!

Hmmm.......hang on, you might be onto something. Beats squashing the boys against the tank!

i would only suggest it to those that have spawned as much as they'd like to.

perhas some "junk" protection... think "goody-gasket" could help.

Me thinks you meant basket. "Goody-gasket" sounds like an IUD or something.

nope, i meant "goody-gasket". i was thinking it might dam the boys in so the ice water didn't cause shrinkage.

Ice WATER? haha

Now that sounds like a great idea - I hydrate very well, before, during and after - probably saves me from passing out!

but that's a great idea, get suited, then get iced watered.. thanks, I will try it and report back.

Something else that crossed my mind as I was riding today (and though Pittsburgh rarely gets as hot as AZ, we get KILLER humidity) was to make sure you get a "good" helmet with LOTS of ventilation.
