Hi. The best thing I can tell you is to have her try a bunch on. Shoei, Suomy and Arai are all very light. Personally, I have an HJC, not as heavy, but very comfy IMO. But its all a matter of preference...

Just make sure she knows how much the padding will break down, and it has to be pretty snug at first.

Good luck

I'll agree with the "try them on" advice. They all fit different head shapes differently. Shoei seem to be the most comfortable for me, but I have used HJC as well. Just go to a shop and have her try on all the brands and see which is most comfortable to her. As long as it is DOT and/or SNELL approved it will be good.

Wow, I've been searching for a new helmet for months and the search finally ended today. If she's a passenger and doesn't want to spend a ton, definitely go to different shops and try them on. As long as it's DOT and SNELL approved and she's comfortable, that's all that should matter.

As far s the DOT and SNELL approvals, it may have one or the other or both I think. If I recall correctly, I think the SNELL testing is a bit more rigorous and is better than the DOT. I'll see if I can find the threads that talked about this....

Anyway, you get the idea. Do a search on it if you want to read more. Oh, and this might help:

Snell is a higher standard. The family had a son killed in a snowmobile accident in the 70's due to a faulty helmet. They Created the Snell Institute to prevent that kinda thing from happening to someone else's child.

I'm a bit late on the topic, but I have an HJC AC-11 (new as of last season) and it is DEFINATELY the best helmet I've had. I had a KBC which was awful, but since I've gotten the AC-11, at least 3 other riders that I personally know have gotten one, and every one of us love it. Not to mention that it's cheaper than Shoei and Arai, but is still DOT and SNELL M2000 rated.
