My VFR will be gone by next spring but I don't know exactly what I'm going to replace it with. I've narrowed it down to the below. Now remember I'm 6'4" around 230 lbs depending on the week. Because of this Suzuki's and Yamaha's are out of the question. So here's what I'm contemplating:
'01 CBR1100XX
'01 929
'01 ZX9
'01 ZX12
'01 Aprillia Futura

Without turning this into a full page, the pros and cons of each are

CBR1100 - Pros: very rare, more than enough power, comfortable, centerstand, fuel injection, full instrument panel, smooth as silk, not flashy.

- Cons: Not sure on the color, inline four, heavy, catlytic convertor, heavy, slow in corners, no solo seat or seat cowl, no adjustability in rear shock.

929 - Pros: light, power, the black and yellow color, fuel injection, handling, full suspension adjustablity, not that flashy.

- Cons: everybody has them, considered a squid mount(no offense), not exactly a long ride bike, ergonomics, crappy two up riding, inline four, kinda flashy, no centerstand, lack of seat cowl or solo seat.

ZX-9R - Pros: power, good looking, ergonomics, great engine.

- Cons: No fuel injection(maybe), Black Mica is not offered, kinda too flashy without the Black Mica, no centerstand, kinda loopey in the turns, weight, lack of seat cowl or solo seat, no centerstand, everyone has them.

ZX-12R - Pros: POWER, fuel injection, not everyone will have one, torque, probably great ergonomics, probably decent two up riding.

- Cons: Glitches to be worked out, kinda almost ugly, heavy, slow in turns, might not be a good passenger bike, inline four, no centerstand.

Aprillia - Pros: V-TWIN, single sided swingarm, not everyone will have one, underseat exhaust, torque, sound, seems nice looking, ergonomics, good two up riding, fuel injection, centerstand, not flashy.

- Cons: Pricey, not much different than the VFR(it's made to directly compete), might be light on power, no solo seat or seat cowl, probably heavy, first year blues.

and....

'00 VFR(keeping it)
-Pros: comfy, V-4, yellow, not everyone has them, not flashy, seat cowl, decent two up riding, ergonomics, centerstand, full exhaust and k&n filter already, single sided swingarm, fuel injection, good looking(IMO)

-Cons: Power, weight, need a change, 9,000 miles(not a big deal), no trunk.

Well that's it. I would love to hear your opinions. Sorry for the book, but that's my thinking so far. You can see a trend on what I look for in a bike, or don't look for. I really like single sided swingarms so that's a con on all but the last two. Seems like my height really hampers my options unfortunately.

Looks like I turned this into a full page.

Ok Ok, I'm going to to say the XX, I know it's a bit one eyed.

Your a big bloke, and I think the bird would do pretty well, also cat cons can be ripped out (they must be somthing you have in the states, cause we don't have em?).

Thanks for the replies guys.

The XX is gonna have cats this year from what I've heard. Supposedly it will be like the VFR in that they strived to keep the power the same after adding the cat.

The rumours are that somehow Honda massaged another 11hp out of the bird even with the cat. Which seems pretty exciting since I would rip that off before the first service.

But then again, I still have my FI light on from when I bought my exhaust for the VFR and got rid of the cat.

It's boiled down to the XX and 929, with the 12R a far third.

First of all, at your size nothing is going to be very comfortable. I'm not quite as tall but I do weigh more.

I did not realize that Kawi was discontinuing the Mica color on the 9R. That would have been my recommendation.

I don't think you could go wrong with either bike although a first year Aprilia might be a risk.

I would say the XX sounds like the best choice if you expect to do any type of touring or two-up riding.

two questions, why no suzuki or yamaha? okay i can understand the r1, it's tight, but gsxr is very comfy.

anyway, back to what you like...

if you want something a little sporty than your vfr--zx9r

if you want a purer sportbike--929.

if you want a vfr with a boat load of power--xx (maybe hayabusa and you won't have those lbs and cats, and whatever else honda bolts on to it).

if you're happy with you vfr, why not keep it?

maybe a bandit 1200 is in your future

I have weighed all options and Suzuki's aren't for me. The Tiller is probably the best fit but if I'm not on the highway with it my arms and hands go numb. I haven't been on a Tiller long enough to see how my legs would feel. I also rode a '97 Gixxer 750, while it was exciting as hell I couldn't own one as my one and only bike.

The ZX-9 is a great bike but I want fuel injection. I can't believe Kawi and Yammi haven't woke up to Fuel Injection yet.

A bandit is out of the question. I am a full fairing kind of guy.

The only thing that concerns me about the XX is the weight, not so much parking lot maneuvering(sp?)(working out has it's privelages ) but fast twisties. If it handles any worse than the VFR I will be very disappointed.

The 929 scares me for any type of long riding or two up riding.

I could be keep the VFR but it's about to click 9,000 miles and I'm definitely not satified with the power of the bike.

Thanks again for the replies.

So you think it's about as good as the VFR?? Or does it want to push through corners??

I really should email you offline to ask you some specific questions... I don't know how happy I am with the Candy Red color. I like the grey for some odd reason, with the black frame and all.

Not too mention the possible catlytic convertor debacle like the VFR.

Thanks again for the info.

Did you ever get the power commander, filter and exhaust on??

Question

Why not a Triumph Sprint ST or Daytona? Lots of torque, handle well, and from all accounts, at least the ST is more comfortable than the bikes you've mentioned. I don't know about the Daytona. Both have more power than the VFR you're riding now, and are fully faired.

Just curious as to why they've been ruled out...
