I can't believe I'm the first to bring this up- Motorcyclist just did a shootout between the R1, 929, and ZX9, and picked the 929 #1 overall. Most interesting is their statement that the 929 makes the R1 feel heavy and slow!
Now I'm gonna kick back and watch the ensuing debate between Chris and every Honda owner here!

You didn't mention the "little" GSXR was included in the test. Funny, it posted faster top speed, quicker 1/4 mile times (except for the ZX9R) and better lap times than any of the other bikes. Yeah, it's a racebike with lights, we all know. But, it's just a 750,too.

I was going to point this out to Chris but it sounds like he's having a bad day, I didn't have the hart.

Tristan, is that in the July issue? I have yet to receive mine. Did they say anything about hard parts dragging on the 929? A while back, there was that story of racers dragging the case (which side I don't know), causing the front tire to lose grip, and Wham-O. I have seen several photos of the 929 in what seems to be full lean, and I can't see how that was happening. Anyone got any updates on this?

Looking forward to Chris "I love my R1" Hooligan Sr.'s reply...

Pete- yeah, I think it's July. I thought the bad case design belonged to the RC51. I'm not sure, but I don't recall the shootout mentioning it on the 929.

Tristan, I've been searching the SBW archives to find the reference to the problem. If I ever find it, I'll post it here. I was pretty sure it was the 929; "was" being the operative word.

Speedvision had a comparo last night. A
friend here at work was telling me about it.
It was the R1, 929, ZX9 and I guess the GSXR.
He said 4 bikes but wasn't sure of the last
one. Anyway again, 929 ontop with R1 right
behind. They said the same thing everyone
else is saying. The Honda's a better all
around bike but experts will be faster on the
R1 b/c of it's power...

Hummmm.....

Yeah Chris, I think that's the way it will go with all the Y2K shootouts. The racers will rate the R1 tops, while the others will rate the 929 high based on it's more street-friendly ergos and power delivery. No one can dispute that all four are really great bikes.

BTW, does anyone have a video of that comparo? I don't have Speedvision, though that's in the works, and would be willing to pay the cost of shipping and a blank tape for it.

Yeah... The R1 might be faster on lap times
if the wheel does fly apart and kill you.
I'm really salty about this one. It's a
very very serious problem and I hope to
God that the 2000 model has this addressed.

Peace!
Chris
