Thumbs up 03 954, 03 R1 or 02 GSXR?

well it's finally time for a new bike!!
i sold my old F4 and am now buying a brand new machine! I CAN'T WAIT!!
i am however having a hell of a time deciding what i should get! i have ruled out another 600 for the most part. i like the look of the CBR6RR and ZX6R but i want a bigger bike this time after 3 600's i'm ready for a liter bike. so what to do? i'm leaning toward the 954 at this time, i can't seem to fall in love with the R1's. i like the look of them but i can't see myself driving one. I don't like the pics of the 03 GSXR1K but i do like the 02. i have a buddy who swears by his and aother friend that drove it and didn't like it. since the 03's are the same as the 02's please give me your thoughts, if you have one of the above mentioned or have driven a couple of them.

I love my 02 9R. Not the leader of the pack as far as performance goes, but I will never know that from my skills. All day riding comfort and lots of power, more than you need in the real world.
You might want to consider the GSXR750, it was my second choice. Lots of power (litre bike power), and certainly a more track worthy machine then the ninja.

i like my 750, but it's kinda best of both world, kinda the worse of both worlds.

it's cool because you can keep the rev down and it's like a 600. you can rev it up and it pulls like a litre bike (just with a lot more rpm).

it does suck because it doesn't pull down low and it is hard to get it out of shape and have fun below 80 mph.

If you like the 600RR, but want something bigger, wait till 2004. 954 will be replaced with an all new model. (998cc, pro-link rear, ram-air, etc).

If you can get a good deal on a leftover '02 gsxr750, go for it.

To be fair, they're ALL good sportbikes out there and they ALL perform beyond the capabilities of most riders, so you really can't go wrong. (unless you buy a Buell or something)

not to sway off topic here.. but why did you opt not for a new 600?? looks like its going to be the hot class this year.. power doesnt do it for you anymore?? reason i ask is becasue im selling my 02 RC to downsize for more trackdays to learn better riding.. somebody offered to trade me a basically new 954, i opted not cuz i dont need to power to get into more trouble on the streets..

on topic.. an of of those bikes are going to be great. it boils down to what calls your name. the R1 you said doenst, so thats out, so you can flip a coin for either the honda or the suzuki. both great in my bike. the only two companies that i like anyhow...

I just bought a 03 Silver R1. This bike is unreal. Very easy to
ride, great feel, very flickable and the comfort is more than
what I thought it would be. I ride mostly open straight roads
and it eats them up. Probably not the best bike for hard core
curves, but for open road it's outstanding. Don't waste your
money on another 600cc. Go for the liter bike. You deserve it.
It's not the fastest bike out there, but it will hold it's own with
no problem. I think it's the best looking liter bike anyone has
to offer of the big four. I don't understand why you don't like
the looks of it. Did you have a bad experience with Yamaha
at one time? Anyway it's your choice to make. I made the
choice of the 03 R1 and did not make the wrong choice IMO.
All the bikes have ups and downs. Get what you want.

Pic's don't do the the 03 1k justice..I didn't like the pic's either, then I saw the 03 1k in person...much better.. And if you intend to wait till 04...that when Suzuki will come out with the redesigned bikes...... I just like the feel of the gixxers better than the other brands.....well maybe except for the Mille R...LOL

Get the bike that YOU like...after all you have to ride it..

Old, Slow, but ...Smooth

What he said.

Why buy a new liter bike this year? Honda, Kaw, and Yamaha will have all new bikes for 04. Before laying out almost 10g's I'd damn sure wait to see the 04 models.

the only thing is i sold my bikr this winter, and i don't think i can go a whole summer with out a bike!!
i could out'n'out buy one next summer probably but a summer with out a bike? thats creul and unusual punishment!!
i suppose i could get a 600 and take really good care of it then trade it next year for a new litre bike, something like a CBR6RR will be worth more to a dealer thana 954 b/c the 954 will be old model next year? and the new 6's are making ALOT of power.

Consider a Suzuki Bandit. 1200c.c.'s and all the power you could want. Based on the gixxer of the early 90's there are tons of aftermarket parts and the best part is a Bandit is priced a couple of thousand less than even most 600's. The new 1 liter GSXR is an awesome bike but it"s probably $5000 more. You can buy a lot of accessories for a Bandit with that difference.
