800cc Duke 3.5 secs slower

BRNO, Czech Republic (AFP) - Loris Capirossi, fresh from his win in Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix, stayed on at the Brno circuit to test Ducati's model for next season.

Capirossi completed 28 laps on the new machine which conforms to new regulations coming in next year limiting the size of the engine to 800cc instead of 900cc, clocking a best time of 1min 59.6sec.

And the Italian was clearly impressed saying: "This first test was positive even if the bike will have to undergo further development.

"The engine has improved versatility. You have to ride it differently to the GP6 model but it's very likeable."

"The engine is obviously less powerful but it makes a great sound."

Is it weird in here, or is it just me?

Bad move

Not a big fan of the move to 800cc
I know they want to reduce the speed for improved safety but who the fark makes 800cc bikes

Used to take the baffles out of the KH250 and clear the pipes out through the village
Sounded just like that Ilmore thing

Had to use my step ladder to change a light bulb cos i don't get on with my real ladder.

Safe as Houses!

Some food for thought.

These 800 cc bikes were introduced in an attempt to reduce the speeds and increase safety since the last thing the FIM want on their hands is another fatality......

So is 3.5seconds slower really that much safer? Have they not just gone and made the bikes faster? Faster corner speeds etc with the lighter all up weight? Of course their top speed down the straight is going to be less but who falls off down the straight?

Surely the FIM should have put some more effort into the traction control side of it and how this is going to be implemented? When was the last time you saw a Carlos Checa stylie highside?

It's not looking good

If they go the F1 route and try and impose all kinds of crap to slow em down. It just ends up being the gravey train F1 now is. I mean come on! i'm not biased against cars and the old rule = if it's got an engine and there's more than one of em it's a race" but how anybody can get excited about F1 is beyond me.

Can't wait for pit stops in Moto GP. At least the commentators can waffle about stratergy instead of the continual tyre compound shite and " disregard rossi at your peril" n "it's never over for the doctor" ( and that should read "professor" if translated right)

There's also the " what if the bikes lack the grunt for quick clean passing moves" issue.
Nope! trying to slow em down isn't going to improve safety any!

Talking Ive cracked it

How about 500cc two strokes
Just imagine the noise and the smell, riders popping up from behind the screen to get on the brakes and all you can hear is the wind blasting on their chests That would be top racing.

Talk about noise

Make them ride oil spewing shaft driven 1500cubic inch twin Hardley motorcycles.
Let's see if Rossi thinks it is exciiiting!
