Clueless

The modern Litre Machines and 600cc are getting better with every model....

Gone are the days when a 400cc rules corner speed.

I ride a stock ZXR400L model with jet kits and muzzy exhaust for the last 5 years, and at ever track session it gets increasing difficult to keep up with these new bikes.

I just got back from my monthly track days and I blew my Cams and Rockers Arms while trying to keep in touch with the faster groups (Mix of R1's Gixxer's a couple of 600cc's) in the circuit.

Due to the lacking in mid range, I pulled out of every corners on a lower gear and i was caught by surprise by the needles bouncing off the rev limiter....(was really desperate for more revs or more mid range).

I am a setimetal fool, upgrading to a bigger bike is out of the question (family commitements and other stuffs).

What should I do?

Stick back to the stock cams or go for aftermarket ones with higher lift?

I have never use aftermarket cams before so I really dunno what to expect, last thing i want is ZERO MID Range with Narrow Power Band. I'm not as good a rider as Wolverine to ride such set up.

give me your thoughts.

Mike

The first thing is stick to stock....after market in an old engine is asking for trouble.

Next thing is gearing...try changeing drive and rear wheel sprockets to get your more in line with corner exit speed/torque/gear balance. Worth a try.
Carrying more corner speed isn't always an advantage. Brake...in...turn...point..... squirt works too

Had to use my step ladder to change a light bulb cos i don't get on with my real ladder.

Thats good advise, I take note of it.

I tried LAte Brake, turn and shoot...didnt work well for me coz my bike dun have generous torque and the main factor is rider lacking in talent.

But then again you gave very good advise....

Many Thanks

Are still terrified of 400cc (especially old ones) coming to turn 2?
