Valentino Rossi primes himself for WRC debut
Barely recovered from his return from Phillip Island, Valentino Rossi has donned his helmet once again, but this time at the steering wheel of the Peugeot 206 WRC car he will drive in the upcoming British Rally, the last round of the World Rally Championship which takes place in mid-November. The MotoGP World Champion had a first practice session with his co-driver Carlo Cassina on a test track near to Imperia, in north-western Italy.
Rossi was very enthusiastic about his first run out, ´The kilometres I have been able to cover today have allowed me to familiarise myself with my Michelin 206 WRC and above all accustom myself to listening to the pacenotes read out by my co-driver Carlo. I felt very comfortable with the car and felt the same sensations as I do in MotoGP concerning cornering lines and engine power. On the other hand, braking distances are very different.´
He may want to steal the limelight from such familiar names as Gronholm, Burns or McRae, but the Italian remains realistic about his chances of making an impression in the Welsh forests, ´My objective? I've got about as much chance of winning the rally outright as I have of winning the soccer World Cup! There'll be at least fifteen drivers ahead of me fighting for that. I just really want to go all the way to the finish´.
Is it weird in here, or is it just me?
