I took my R1 to the dealer today and got a shock. They say I have a bent shift fork and possibly a bent drum. Estimates are at $2000, worse case. Is there anything I can do the fix this myself? Any and all advise would be appreciated.
I can't answer you question, but I have found a slide show on replacing the transmission on a 98 R1. I like to look at it from time-to-time and dream of doing some actual grease monkey work, because I just think it's easy to mess stuff up after seeing the inside.
I found a local shop (not a big dealer), the guy charges $60 and says that dropping the motor and splitting the cases is an 8 hour job (this includes putting it back together).
I think you are getting ripped off, unless parts cost $700.
