? about slip-on's for an 04 R6

i need some advice about slip-on's for an 04 R6. I know next to nothing about exhuast systems. i've done some research on this fourm and others before asking, but wasn't able to really find the answers i was looking for. BTW, who ever it was that wrote the exhuast info on the RC51.org site...very informative! thank you!

first, let me tell you a bit about my riding style. i am new to sport bikes (riden standard / cruisers on street for awhile). at this point i have no intention of hitting the track anytime soon. i have no desire to race some squid 1 block to the next red light. i think overly-loud bikes are really inconsiderate to the rest of society and give bikers a bad image. i am not activly trying to increase the speed and horsepower of my bike. i think riding way over the speed limit on public roads is wreckless and dangerous.

so why do i want a slip-on? mostlly becuase i *hate* the apprence of the stock can on the R6. also, if i could get something to smooth out the powerband a bit, that would be really cool. i definatlly do not want to *decrease* the performance of the bike by getting some squid pipe that has no R&D behind it, but there is no way i need something like a Moriwaki either.

so any advice on something that will be a quality product, smooth the powerband, not be D&D loud, a look cool at the same time?

Hi Chris-

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. This R6 is my eighth or ninth bike and not a one of 'em kept their stock pipe for very long. Well, my FZ-1 did, but I ultimately swapped that out as well.

Anyway, a slip-on alone isn't going to smooth out the powerband completely. You'll have a bit more power and torque above stock at most points in the rev band, but the manner in which it's delivered is still going to be pretty much the same.

Now a slip-on combined with a properly set-up PC might go a little farther; then you can adjust fuel delivery to go with that free-flowing slip-on. Still, the engine will always be somewhat of a peaky beast by design, but you should notice a fairly appreciable gain in throttle response and drivability after adding a slip-on and a proper map.

As far as quality products go, I can recommend anything by Yoshimura (really good stuff even if they are everywhere), Scorpion (killer tone without excessive noise, no-repack, and a good price), Akrapovic (pricey but gorgeous and sounds fantastic), and then Two Brothers, which I thought was well made but still a bit on the loud side for me personally.

Those are the ones I've had first-hand experience with and can heartily recommend.
