Question

Hello

Well I just picked up my first bike yesterday, which is a 93 katana 600. I put it in the back of my truck to bring it home, the ride is about an hour and 30 minutes. Well the bike started at the guy's house, and now it will not start. I am starting it the way the guy told me to start it, and it is still not starting. Does anyone know why it is not starting? or have any ideas of what I can try to start it. Also if you could tell me how you are starting your bikes , sorry about this post, i am new to the street bikes, I am only used to dirt bikes, but any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Sorry, about that...Well i hear the starter going, but I do not hear it turning over. I have the choke about 1/2 way. and I hold in the clutch, and I only hear the starter turning over. i did notice though, the light does dim when I push teh start button, I dunno if that is normal or if it could just be a low battery. Sorry about being naive, I am still learning about street bikes. Thanks again for your help

Okay buddy...here we go...first pull the battery and check the levels in all the cells.You may have to replace the battery. The stock battery is good for about 5-6 years,depending on maintenance.Otherwise a charge may bring it back up to snuff.If the battery is marginal it will run down fairly quick.
These bikes are factory jetted VERY lean and are sensitive!!!(Damn EPA!! ) You have the on/off switch: on run,the key on,and the choke all the way on,and the fuel on too!(I am assuming we are starting a totally cold bike!).Also put the sidestand up 'cause it has a kill switch attached.DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE!!!Pull in the clutch & Hit the starter button and the bike should crank over and start,(make sure ,too,that the red oil pressurelite goes out).At full choke let the bike run @ 4000rpm (plus or minus a few RPMs) for 3-4 minutes and gradually pull off the choke lever.You can at this stage blip the throttle up to 6 or 7 grand to make sure the plugs don't foul.This whole warm-up can take 5 or more minutes till the choke is all the way turned off.
If this doesn't work u may have wet the plugs down and have to pull the tank off to get to the plugs out or let it sit like 12 hours more or less till the gas on the plugs evaporates.
I hope this makes sense.....if not Email me and we will talk more. Once u get the hang of it it all goes very smooth!!!(I have only had to pull my tank twice in all the time I've had my Kat!!!)

in addition to jim comments, try holding the front brake, compress the forks by pushing down really hard a few times (sounds stupid).

anyway, it gets some gas in the cylinders (works like a primer). this is why you don't buy a bike that is warmed up when you get there.
