how do I ID a motor?

I am looking into picking up a 2003 gsxr 600 for an investment (buy it cheap.. sell the parts)
the guy tells me it has a motor from an 05 in it..???

the way I understand it 01,02,03 are swappable, not 03--->05

if he did put an 05 motor in it, how can i tell the diffrence?

thanks in advance

Hefe

Doesnt the motor have a VIN stamped into it? Get it, see if there is a place on suzi's website to get info, or get a carfax or something like that.

I'm sure it does, just wondering if there is was a quick "tell tale" diffrence between a 01-03 and a 04-05 engine

03 vs 05 GSXR 600

You are correct, the 2005 engine would be substantially different from a 2003. The GSXR 600 was completely redesigned in 2004. The 2004 and 2005 bikes are the same.

Here's a website I found detailing the differences in the fuel injection system and the engine of the 2003 vs 2004:

Being as the 04/05 GSXR-600 was a complete clean-sheet redesign over the 2003 model, I would be surprised if an 05 motor could simply have been dropped into an 03 without any complications.
