Cylinder block cleaning

not having access to an authorized dealer in Serbia, I pulled the motor on my GSXF 600 and spread it around my apartment. it is finally time to start putting it back together after long parts ordering ordeals. the cylinder block is in good shape, but has carbon build up. given the tolerances i hesitate to hone it without access to very fine stones, as recommended in the Haynes manual. can this be buffed by hand and how to proceed? thanks, any help much appreciated.
