Even with 12 yrs. in the dirt, and at your age, I wouldn't recomend any of gsxr's...too much, to soon..

If you read all the threads re: bikes for NU riders...you'll see what I mean..

I know that you said that you were interested in a GSXR, but listen to these guys...

I do however have a bike that is rated as one of the best starter bikes. Its a 2001 Suzuki SV650S. It has spotbike like qualities, but is a much easier and forgiving bike than the GSXR would be.

Email me if you are interested. Even if you keep and ride it for a year or two...you will not be sorry.

Asking $4,000 OBO

I agree also. It wouldn't be too bad to also consider a Katana or even a gs500. For the price of a new sv650 (naked) it's almost better to go new instead of used. Ditto on the GS. The best "sporty" bike that Suzuki makes for beginner/advanced riders is the sv650s.

Plenty of aftermarket parts to back you up in the long run as well.

I am sure you are familiar with safety gear.

minimal:
1.Helmet. DOT approved, but prefer snell too.
2.Jacket.
3.Jeans/maybe even gortex or cordura style riding pants.
4.Gloves.
5.protective Footwear.

That and also a mandatory MSF class. No matter how much you think you know riding in the dirt, street bikes operate quite differently.
