The stock 170 rear is the widest tire that can be mounted on the stock 5.0 rim. It may be possible to mount the VFR800's 5.5 and a 180, but I don't know whether the clearance, offset, and bolt pattern are compatible.

And a wider tire won't improve cornering. In fact, in may slow turn-in. Some literbike riders are downsizing from a 190 to a 180 rear to improve steering.

dan's right,

i had a 180 on my 94' VFR when i bought it,
i went down to a 170 & it was much more flickable,
if it's just for looks put the 180 on it, otherwise go with the 170,
shit i'd put a 150 on my bike if it made it handle better

Thanks guys, the info is greatly welcomed. When the Met'z are ready to be 86'ed I will go with the 170's. Y'all take care.
