XX Header Discoloration....

Anybody else with an XX showing discoloration on their header? Just wondering if its a typical problem, or is it because I ride mostly interstate for about 130 miles a day on it. If I get slip-ons for it, will it continue to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Also, has anyone had any success with removing melted shoe from the header? What did you use? Thanks all, and ride safe!

re:header discoloration

Not having your problems, but I am out there with you doin the miles in Nor Cal. The shoe marks should come out with some simple green and a lot of scrubbing!

Discoloration as in.........? All metal chages color when is it heat cycled like that, stainless, Ti. etc. Don't worry about it. I have 2Bros cf slipons with a PC and no problemo! I run the Yosh full exh. maps(high octane).

Well I've kind of decided that the discoloration doesn't bother me really, it almost looks kinda cool....you know, like the bike is actually ridden and not just sitting in the grarge for show. Its the melted shoe that bugs me now....still looking into ways to get that off without seriously damaging the header or the cans. I've been to lazy to take a magnet out to see if its chromed or not, I have a feeling it is though, which rules out the scotch-brite scrubbing.

I've heard a lot on the octane rating of gas....I know higher octane burns cooler, but I've also heard it can actually hinder performance. In my F4 I ran the highest I could find, and I did the same with the new bike, but here recently I switched to the middle grade. I know it burns hotter, probably causing more discoloration, but oh well, thats no big deal. My question is does the lower octane boost performance? I take the same route everyday, and it has seemed like it takes a little less gas to fill up than before, so I think mileage is up. I just wondered what everyone else has noticed if they made a change.

Discoloration = no problem

Octane won't noticably change your milage or performance on a stock bike but alcohol which raises the octane will decrease milage as it contains less energy than gas.

Use whatever octane rating your manual calls for.

I have a 2Bros shotgun system on mine. Every now and then I have to clean off the shoe print on mine. I've tried a tooth brush with some rim cleaner with pretty good success. This weekend I had some "Mothers" left over and polished the spot. It came off pretty quickly that way. As far as gas I usually use 89%. The manual says you can use lower but I just feel better with the higher octane and it seems to run a little better-my head has been ported.
