Yeah, now if only my wife thought like you! She thinks I'm nuts! LOL

I'd love to go the used route, but like I was telling SW, there are pretty slim pickings in WV. Cycletrader, eBay, etc., are all barren of any suitable bike. Of course I'll keep looking until the time comes to buy, but I'm not counting on finding a used one. I don't think I've ever seen a 500 in the Ad Bulletin here.

Speaking of deals, I'm not sure if this qualifies, but a local Yamaha dealer has a black 2001 YZF600R for $6310, out-the-door. I caught myself figuring out how I could afford it before I realized it'd be too much bike to start on! LOL

i have a new '02 500R, i bought it in the summer, my very first bike after having just learned to ride in a june msf course. honestly i think what made me pick the 500r was the pricetag, and the countless reviews that say it's the absolute best beginner sportbike. they couldn't have been more accurate. I was even looking at starting on a 250 but most people said the 500 would be able to provide more power as i become more experienced with it. And personally as much as I want a zx6r I feel that starting on it might be too much for me, and I wouldn't want to damage it or myself for that matter making a silly newbie mistake.

I haven't read anything about the sv650, but who knows maybe if it's only $350 more than a 500r that it might be worth it, again I have no idea how a sv650 is with newbies but it sure doesn't sound so bad price-tag wise.

As far as modding my 500r goes I haven't done anything yet but my personal peeve with it is of course the nasty fender, and also the lower half fairing, there's a full fairing you can buy from airtech but it makes you wonder if it's worth it if you plan to go up to a more powerful bike.
