anyone got a zx-6r?

Just got an 02 zx-6r a few days ago. I came frome a 95 zx-6e, and I had the old bike in to the dealership for a ticking noise, which I thought was the valves. They told me to save my money, the tranny makes a little ticking noise when riding.
I never expected to hear this on my new 02 zx-6r, but I hear the same ticking at speed. I'm still breaking in the engine, got about 200 miles on it and am being a little more agressive in this past 50 or so miles, shifting at 4 to 5 most of the time, sometimes up to 6, but not violently. I feel this is fine for a break-in. I would say the ticking is caused by being too hard on the engine as I am exceeding the recommended guidelines slightly, but it ticked the first time I rode it, when it had less than 1 mile. It's just a small tick that seems to be in the tranny as it doesn't happen while in neutral, and I don't believe it happens while stopped in gear. I don't really think anything is wrong with it, just didn't expect it to tick. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

The ticking is normal. It's the same on the 9R too.

As far as being hard on the break in. You aren't. The guidelines are just that. Guidelines.

I rode mine through break in like I ride it now, and have since put 18000 miles on it in 1 1/2 years and haven't had a problem with it (including valve clearances, carbs etc....)

Enjoy the bike!

i picked up an 02 just over a month ago! The ticking as Redninja said is normal! As far as the breakin goes, I took Redninja's advice and rode it like i was going to normally! At 300 miles I changed the oil and again at 2,000 miles I did. So far 2,600 miles without a problem!

I've had an 02 ZX-6R since Memorial Day, and mine makes exactly the same ticking noise. Other than that, the bike has been absolutely flawless, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Talking ZX6-R

I got my yellow 6R around the 1st of May. I don't notice any ticking noise. I've only got about 1800 miles on it, and am getting ready to do my second oil change tonight (Amsoil Synthetic).

So do you hear a tick now? If not seems like you got the only 6r or 9r without a tick. I want yours, want to trade? (kidding). With my helmet off it sounds different. I don't think there's anything to worry about, but still would be nice to not hear anything but mechanical bliss (haha). Kawis are built pretty tough.

Uh oh ! You guys are making me paranoid ! You know I'm going to be straining my hearing for any kind of noise, ha ! ha ! You know my Dad had this problem back in 1974. He bought a Chevrolet Vega (Motor Trend Car Of The Year), anyway he swore every time he drove it he heard another noise. Eventually he ended up wearing ear plugs so he couldn't hear the car at all (I'm not kidding). I hope it doesn't run in the family !!

the only ticking I heard was when I would start it, ride it a bit, and realize the fuel knob wasn't turned to "fuel". I didnt notice this until I was riding to work one day when it was 30 degrees out; I thought it was the cold. Well, I was still new to riding and did a once over and realied the bike was idling with me standing next to it w/out the fuel on.

as far as a ticking at speed..... ....no idea

I AGREE WITH Red Ninja (Will)....................This is normal! I am constantly in the service department @ our dealer sponsor and they hear this all of the time too.

It may have to do with how the tranny engages into/outof each gear. As for Nuetral.................Neutral is exactly that. If I get any definitive word I will pass it on!
