ZX7R wheelie questions

I have finally worked out the technique to getting my ZX7 to BP (or at least close to it) in first gear (clutching it up of course). I am running stock gearing and can keep it up in 1st and 2nd. I am having a problem missing the 1st to 2nd shift with it up. About 50% of the time I miss it. You can imagine how hard it drops from BP in neutral. The 1st to 2nd shift on this bike is "notchy" at best and worse when it is up. My first question is do the shift kits that are sold work? Second question is do aftermarket rearsets make shifting any smoother? Any other input on stunting a ZX7 would be appreciated also.

I am not an expert on shifting while on the back wheel, but my advice would be to not even bother. I have done it on dirtbikes. The technique I used is to actually get the bike slightly past BP and shift very quickly with very little or no clutch. I feel this is too risky of a move to pull with my gsxr so I have never really tried on it. I usually pick a gear and stay in that gear. I can ride a wheelie in second gear for pretty much as long as I want to. This is just my opinion. I know a lot of people who are more comfortable pulling the bike up in a low gear and then banging it up a gear or two, but it was never really my thing.

Try adjusting the lever. It could be that simple

back when I first got into wheelies, before the slow stuff blew up, i played around with shifting in wheelie, the idea is to be up high enough, make a quick shift, and then give it power to keep it up. Not necessarily past bp, but close. Now I never do that, if your rpms are rising steadily to where you need to shift, or run out of gear, then you are not at bp. I think youll have more fun learning how to rock it steady without reving through gear and needing to shift. Im not sure new rearsets would help with your missing shifts, and i dont know about the shift kits. Ive accidentally hit the shifter and knocked it into neutral in a wheelie, and your right, it sucks!! Good Luck.

When I finally figured out the BP thing, I couldn't believe how much more fun it was then revving out a wheelie. BP is great, If you hit BP you should be able to stay there forever without accelerating.

ok i dont really care for stunts and such at this point in my riding time, but i like to read and learn so whats BP
