996 SPS Specification

Needa favour here. Can someone tell me if the SPS (any year) came standard with Termignoni end cans in Carbon? If so, it there any spec sheet or other official documentary evidence?

I am having a run in with the local police - I have fitted a 50mm Termi 1/2 system to my Duc, only to be told by the police that the exhaust is not standard. I have tried explaining that this exhaust came standard with the SPS model - Am I correct?? Can anyone help me prove it to them????

Thanks for any help

2000 996 SPS package

I own a 2000 996 SPS. The bike came originally with 2 pipes from the factory. The one is the normal silver pipes which is for road use and conform to the emission rules. The other pipe is the carbon ones and comes with a performance chip. In my country (lucky me) we can use either one. Our cops are not yet into the noise / emmission thing although we do have the laws.

The original marketing material and your technical manual that comes with the bike specifies both these pipes. It does mention however that the carbon pipes is for track use and may be illegal in some countries.

Thumbs up Cheers

hey Duke,

Thanks for the post - was beginning to worry that I was on my own on this.

I cannot find any of the marketing material and I have a 996 s not an SPS. Would there be anyway that you could copy/scan any of this information (marketing material/technical manual) and email it to me?

It is not the emission they are having a problem with here - it is the noise. Which I find absolutely incredible as Harley riders NEVER get stopped by the police and those things are way louder. My reply to the police was that the exhausts came standard on the SPS (albeit with an extra set for the road) and that I was under the impression that as these were standard, they were acceptable.

Any help would be appreciated - May help me get some of my $500 fine back...

Re: 996 SPS Specification

The Carbon Cans that come with the 996 is not street legal. Only the 50mm Termig Aluminium ones that have the emissions info engraved on the side.

You can tell the diff by looking down the inside of the pipe. The carbon's are straight through without a secondary piping (i.e. a circle within a circle) while the street legal one has this.

Your best bet is to get a diffuser. This sits inside the mouth of the cans, making it look factory (at least you can say that you only changed the cover of the exhaust) and importantly, drastically reduces the sound (power too).

goto the the exhaust section.

However, it is very expensive. I am thinking about getting myself a set too.

I'm from Singapore as well and we might just have met before.
