AAARGH!!! gasp..sputter...(i'm choking on my own rage). i just ordered a new tire from our friends at tire express and was very excited about the $68 i was saving instead of buying from the dealer here in town. i used to do all my service at R&S where i bought my bike, but thinking i could be treated better else where, gave the competition a call. this whore answers the phone, gets all my bike info and tells me it will be $84 to mount the tire! she said the manufacture book says to mount a tire takes 1 1/2 hours of labor + parts. our conversation looked like this:

ME: what happens if it only take 45 minutes to do the work, i still get charged for the full 1 1/2 hours of labor?
NAZI: yes
ME: is this a government run operation?
NAZI: no
ME: 'cause that sounds a lot like paying $500 for a screwdriver.
NAZI: that's how we price our services sir
ME: i tell you what. if i buy the shop guy a porn so he can jerk off for the extra hour could i get a discount on the labor charge?
NAZI: if you want to take your bike somewhere else that is you choice.
ME: since you want half the price of the tire just to put it on, that doesn't leave me much choice now does it?

are all dealerships run the blindly? this is New Mexico and people here are pretty loopy, but the old shop i don't like will mount it for $40 parts + labor. i guess this shows ya, everytime you think your getting screwed, someone else screw ya without the lube

thank you for allowing me this time to vent. i feel much better now. feel free to post your own no lube story.

I mounted a tire on my old ninja with tire irons, So I know it's possible.

You have to be fooking strong though, and you'll learn new words

Go buy some irons , lube and a set of rim protectors.... oh and a case of beer.

Let the tire(s) sit out in the sun for a while.

I hate the no lube stories. I was in the Navy, so I can totally relate to no lube happenstance. As far as mounting the tires yourself, what about balancing and all of that? I have some friends who will do damn near anything for beer, and for a guy that weighs 105 saoking wet, I pack a wallop. (I am kidding. I only weigh 104.5) BUT, if you have no jack stands, is that something else you have to get? Can I just set my bike on top of a paint can (laugh damnit!) if I don't have one? What in the hell is a rim protector? Is that something that people in prison could use....cause I am all about some sales and marketing.....

Secretly wanting to be the Bob Vila of superbikes (next on "this old R6", we are going to cuss, drink beer, and mount tires!) but knowing he is more like a useless Tim Taylor,

Thumbs up

1.5 hours to change one tire is bullshit. I don't know what shop guide she is looking at but all of the ones I have seen call for .5 to .75

Take your business elsewhere.
