Some of My Rules!

1) Ride your own ride!
2) Don't follow too close!
3) Always give the car(s) somewhere to go!
4) Keep your head in the ride dummy!
5) Trust no one!
6) You are invisible!
7) You are NOT invincible!
8) Don't show off!
9) Check your equipment!
10) Watch for animals!
11) Use that car for a blocker!
12) Assume they are NOT going to stop or yield!
13) Watch those left turners!!!!!!
14) Stay relaxed
15) Run with your brights on!
16) Damn! I love riding!

Just a few things that go through mind while I'm riding.

Feel free to add your own!

A few ccs short of a full litre.

1. A corner is coming, get the hell out of my way!
2. Cars with blue light bars do NOT want to see your awesome wheelie, and I just don't care.
3. No, I wouldn't like to go for a ride around town where the speed limit is 25.
4. No, your girl can't ride on my bike just because we are 50 miles from home and your wrists hurt. Perhaps you should have thought of that before planning to ride 2-up?
5. No, let's NOT ride by a Harley hangout just to "show them" who is better. Let's just find a curvy road and ride.

These are nuances, not so much rules.

1. Wear your gear.
2. Ride close to the center line (in YOUR lane) when riding 2-lane roads where animals have any possibility of appearing. Maximize your time to react.
3. Ride close to the right side of your lane to minimize the wind blow from oncoming, large trucks in an adjacent lane. Duck under the windscreen too.
4. Don't cross a double yellow.
5. Wave (or nod) to those who wave to you.
6. Don't dis other types of bikes. I don't dis your underwear showing (verbally) and its all about personal style.

Mac's #1 is probably my most important rule. That one applies on the track too, at least for beginners.

Talking The Ten Commandments

1) Never be seen with a fat chick
2) When on fast roads with groups; DONT STAY IN FORMATION!!!
3) High beams ON all the time
4) Dont wave if they dont wave first (pertaining to cruiser/harleys)
5) Riding side-saddle, ape-hanging, & knee-dragging is for the track; ride normal on the street to save your head from being sliced off
6) If you not going to make a turn; DONT BRAKE, you lean that bizch farther then you ever had before
7) If you want horsepower, dont get a buell ()
8) Use blinkers only if you turning off the main road, lane changes dont matter. Night time and group ride always use
9) Don't dis other types of bikes, its all about personal style. (good one, +1)
10) Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird

19) Always put the petcock back after using reserve!
20) Watch out for gravel, new tires, and cold pavement!

It is neither safe nor legal to high beam oncoming traffic... and therefore, not smart, either.

During the day it doesn't seem to be an issue. Some guys I ride with do it (I don't) and they've never had anybody except me say anything to them about it.

blinding visibility is my argument

dirty details
durring the day the beams are always on, it does help an inch more. night time i toggle it, blinding the rear-view-mirror is a annoyance to me so I dont do it to them. Since my lights are weaker than im confortable with, they are high most of the time. Plus the DOT reccomends high beams to be used when ever possible at night

+ i got my 'trucker' accent lights for those rubber neckers, CRASH
