650R Gearing is Really Nice for Commuter

Now that I'm getting more used to it, I have to say I really like the gearing Kawi did on the 650r for highways.

The powerband is roughly 5000-9000 RPM. But highway at 85 MPH-ish is around 4500 RPM.

What makes this really nice is, for any normal fuel efficient riding you are always riding just a hair below your powerband.

Given that when crap starts happening you only have 4 choices ... swerve left, swerve right, panic stop, or gun it ... this is nice because the 4th choice is always ready.

Is this typical of all sport bikes?

(To have powerband start just above fuel efficient highway cruising?)

Yes very much the choice & what we use on sportbikes. NOW you know what we like to have that reserve power for often it is just down a cog or two & that is enought to get your slowed down or accellerated out of the throuble.
