NORTHGLENN – Police say an officer shot a man accused of trying to steal a motorcycle early Monday morning.
Northglenn Police say two officers were on foot patrol at the Glen Arm Apartments, located at 301 Malley Dr., around 2:45 a.m. Police say they were on patrol because several vehicles at the complex have been stolen or broken into.
It was during this patrol that officers came across a man, later identified as 21-year-old Eric Henry, trying to steal a motorcycle. Police say Henry refused to show his hands and took off on foot.
The officers followed him through the apartment complex and at one point, police say Henry ran toward one of the officers and reached into his waistband. The officer said he believed Henry was drawing a weapon and he shot Henry once in the leg.
Henry was taken to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment. Once he is released, he will be taken into custody.
Per department policy, the officer who shot Henry has been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation by the Adams County Shoot Team.
