High Purity Nitrogen Tire Inflation

Hey Everybody,

I was in a business meeting today and learned of a new service being offered at some participating tire shops.

Its called High Purity Nitrogen Tire Inflation. Apparently this technique is used in many applications including racing of all sorts - NASCAR, Indy, Formula 1, Commercial Aircraft, bycicle racing, etc.

Purity levels have to be very high though in order for it to work. In the neighborhood of 98% purity.

Are any of you using it in your motorcycle tires?

Claimed Benefits:

1. Maintains recommended tire pressure 30-40 percent longer than air.

2. Longer tire life because less moisture in comparison to compressed air which speeds the deterioration from where the tire meets the rim.

3. Reduces tire rolling resistance thru proper inflation - increases gas mileage.

Once the machines are operational in my area I think I'm gonna try it out.

What are your thoughts on this? Anyone using it currently? Anyone heard horror stories?

I think we discussed it to death here .
I'll save you the trouble. The conclusion was that it doesnt hurt a thing, but its an utter waste of money.

Edit: Cookie beat me to it. I was too busy typing up the conclusion

New ideas are always interesting, but the cost is a factor & like so many others I simply use the air from a compressor & in my case my own compressor.
