Unhappy That didnt take long. First crash.

I had my ex500 exactly one week before I crashed it.

I was in a turn and saw what I thought was a big stick or exhaust pipe taking up the inside half of my lane so I had to take the corner wider than I wanted. After I made it past the thing I was staring straight ahead at a barbed wire fence and was on the outside of my lane already, got scared I was going to run off the road and hit the brakes.

The bike slid out from under me and I watched it skid across the pavement, go into the ditch, and into the fence as I slid down the road.

At the time I was wearing:
Scorpion 400 helmet
Cortech GX sport textile jacket
Firstgear HT Air overpants
Icon motorhead boots
Alpinestar SPS1 gloves

I dont think I hit my head at all and the helmet doesnt look like it has any scratches on it. My jacket was ripped on the left elbow a little bit but didnt get all the way through both layers of armor. My pants are completely destroyed. There is a hole in the left knee which let my skin slide against the pavement a bit and skinned my knee in three small spots, but that was the only damage to me. The pants also have holes in the crotch area even though I thought I only slid on my left side. The gloves held up well and protected my hands, same for the boots.

As for the bike it has a bit of damage. The left handle bar was bent and snapped off when I tried to lift the bike. And the clutch lever is bent also. The left corner on the front fairing was grinded off and the left turn signal and mirror got some rash. The lower fairing shattered into a lot of pieces and I think it or a fence post caved it both exhast pipes and the oil filter. Also the front wheel was scraped a little bit. Thats the only damage I've found.

I've got some questions about fixing it.

Should I take it to a shop and have it checked out? Will I have to buy a new front fairing? I dont mind if it looks a little rough if its rideable. Honestly I'm wondering if I can fix it myself. It cant be that hard to replace the two exhaust pipes, handle bar and clutch lever (Which is all I think needs to be replaced besides the plastic which is of course is really expensive).

My left glove, it didnt wear through even though it sorta looks like it did.

glad to hear you are ok and the bike sounds fixable, if you have any mechanical ability you can do it yourself.
