oil light

I just changed the oil and filter on my 97 zx6r. The oil level is a little over half way between the lines on filler window. My oil light stays on, on my dash. It was on when i rode the bike last time and i thought it was because it needed changed. the oil was really black. so now that i have changed the oil, the light still stays on. (i had i running for about 20 minutes.) Is there something else that could be causing this to stay lit? Could there be too much oil in it and that's why? Or is this something that i shouldn't be concerned about? Please help!?!

It might have something to do with the fact that you were riding your bike around while the oil light was on..

take it to the shop and have them check you oil pressure with a mechanical gauge and see if it is in spec's you might just need a new sending unit, but you might also have more problems.
