So, there I was, riding along happily on an 80km/h (50mph) stretch of road that everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, takes at 100km/h (60mph). Dead straight for maybe 5km, then a 15 degree bend at the end. The scrub is cut about 20 metres (65ft) from the road. It was about 4:30am, starting to get light. Light dusting of rain, but I didn't have a care in the world. F*ck it, it's just a bit of water. I was just entering the bend...
...then I lost focus...
Next thing I knew, there's a 'roo standing in the middle of my lane! Only small, maybe 3ft, but big enough that this was going to hurt.
My a**e gripped the seat as my mind snapped back to the task at hand. "OH, F*CK!!" By the time my body reacted, I was on him. Thankfully, sweet Jesus, thankfully, he avoided me. He turned away just as I got to him. I must've missed him by a flea's dick.
I slowed down, caught my breath again and continued on my way, all the while thanking my f*cking lucky stars that the 'roo had turned and moved instead of holding his ground.
Stay focused people...
