My Day

Well here's a long essay about today's occurances.. it's a somewhat interesting story and you can also share any events in recent rides to make this thread have a point.

I left my house around 8am to meet up with about 15 other riders on Rt 23. We left the meet spot around 10 and headed up north. After some general squid-like behavior including ripping through twisties and passing cars on one-lane roads like fuckin MotoGP racers, we stopped at a gas station near Port Jervis. We grabbed some food then left and headed back out. At this point we got on a road that was pretty twisty and not many people had been on before. Most of us slowed shit down and there were also basically no cars on this road. I was about 6th or 7th in line, bringing up the rear of the fast group. I'm spaced out with the guy in front of me but I'm keeping him in sight. Just as I began to enter a right hand turn that curved downhill with a decreasing radius, I see a bike sliding down the middle of the street and the guy tumbling off the road. Since I'm the first guy to stop I quickly parked my bike on the side of the road opposite where the guy laid, and ran over and called 911. By this time mostly everyone else behind me has stopped, and they park on the side of the road, some right behind my bike. I look up the road to the entrance of the turn, and another guy had gone down (not as seriously) as a result of seeing the crash and panicking a little so he basically just dropped the bike as he swerved.

At this point pretty much everyone is at the crash site and somehow an emergency response truck is already at the scene. I turn around, and I see the bike that was parked directly behind mine somehow fell on it's side. My bike is still upright. Then I see the guy run over and pick up his bike, however the asshole somehow knocked my bike over as he picked his bike up because they were so close. Of course he leaves soon after, and I didn't even know him so that sucks. Anyway, I pick up my bike that is nearly upside down because of the curve of the road, and the fuckin front brake lever is completely snapped off, as well as some oil leaking from the top of the casing as a result of being upside down. Also the bar end was jammed up against the throttle making it stick, and when I loosened it, it just kinda stayed loose but it's in no danger of coming off so I don't think I'm going to replace it right now.

Eventually a couple ambulances and a firetruck come and the guy who slid off the road possibly has a broken arm, road rash on his lower abdomen and was complaining about a headache so they take him by ambulance to a medivac chopper to airlift him to Morristown trauma center. His bike doesn't have much damage to it except for scratched plastics and a dent in the gas tank. His frame slider worked great, it was worn way the hell down. For some reason the second guy's bike wouldn't start even though there was even less damage to his bike, so I think that bike had to be towed as well.

I had to leave and head back about 50 miles to the nearest Honda dealer to see if they had a front brake lever... which of course they didn't. Riding with no front brakes is very exciting and something I don't want to repeat. I called up a couple more dealers and finally found one that had a lever so I went there, got it, headed home and replaced it. Now I just have to clean the oil off my fairings and on Monday or Tuesday change the oil.

Hah.. yeah. Well to be honest, I was just happy that I could pretty much keep up with them. Squidly to do on the street.. yes, but it also means that I am definitely improving at taking twisties.

Unas...how long have you been riding?

Sorry to hear about your bike, that would piss me off bigtime if someone knocked mine over w/o even talking to me about it.

"YOU" called the whaambulance Unas.
LMFAO!!!

I would of definatly had words with a guy that knocks over my bike. Did he pick it up? Or did he just walk away? If he just walked away then that definatly qualifies for a football tackle and a few slaps to the head.

Nice Avatar btw... Is this forum owned by clear channel or something??

I'm not exactly sure what happened, because at the time there was only the emergency pickup there and the situation wasn't under control. I hadn't experienced seeing someone go down right in front of me, so I was more concerned with my friend who was on the ground then paying attention to my bike, but I do know that at one point the bike behind mine was knocked over and mine was still upright on its stand! When I saw my bike was down, I pretty much just ran over and lifted it back up and cursed a lot. When the paramedics arrived and they were taking care of the guy was when I checked my bike out fully. At that point I think the person who's bike had knocked into mine had already left and he was one of the people who I didn't know on the ride. At this point all I can remember is that it was a blue bike. Ah well, it only cost me $30 and and oil change. A couple more scratches will just add character to my bikes right side, since the left side has already been down.

Oh yea, and I think this site is directly run by the FCC.

Stories like this make me think twice about riding with a group. Especially if there are people you don't know.

When I first started coming to this site around 5 years ago, they didn't even allow very much swearing, let alone nudity or graphic photos. It was as if the site were meant to be viewed by young teenagers..................which was cool with me.

A lot of the people out here are old enough to have kids, and it's a good thing to be able to look at a site with them, and to know that they won't see anything that will burn their little eyeballs out....

Overall they've kept this a class forum.

Not that I'm arguing, but in most states don't you have to be 17 or 18 to get your motorcycle license? And 18 is also the age you can buy porn..

Edit: Ok in case my point isn't clear, which I can see how that statement seems extremely random, I mean that since this website is targeted at "sport bike riders," that demographic is old enough to see.. well.. nothing, which is what my avatar contained. And I know I sound bitter but I really don't mind getting my avatar taken down, I just like to argue..

You're absolutely right, and I thought your avatar was rather tasty looking, but it's not really appropriate here.

Nobody loves naked women more than me, but there are a lot of people who come here at work, where looking at something that could be even loosely described as porn could cost them. If it's under a certain board, you can choose to not go there, but if it's on an avatar that pops up everywhere, it could be a problem....

And not least of all consider this - Supposed the many ladies out here started posting a bunch of naked guys. Guys much better looking than you or me who have to buy their shoes three at a time? Would you want to be looking at that all the time?
