You, your bike and a bird at 180km/h.

I went riding last week, it was a nice, warm, clear day and the road was quiet.

I opened my throttle and got round about 180km/h and was still accelerating when I saw this pigeon. It was flying over the road a few meters above me, then it took a sudden dive like a camacazi pilot right towards me. I ducked in as much and fast as possible , closed the throttle and heard a 'CLUNK'. The freaking pegion hit my helmet.

Later that day I was wondering what damage a bird can do to you or your bike at that speed if it hit you solid.

Has this ever happened to you?

I hit a bird driving through New York state. I was humming along around 100MPH and WHAMMO I hit a bird. It hit my left shoulder, felt like I got hit by a pitch. My left arm numbed up for a quick second...I had a small bruise. I was wearing a leather riding jacket. Little thing hurt!!

I was doing 110 (176kph) around a corner when I spooked three buzzards on the road. All three took off, but one took of in the direction of the road. So I reareneded him as he couldnt climb hight enough to clear me in time. I was wearing full leathers, and the bird glanced off the windscreen (Taking out a mirror, folded it over past the stop and broke the glass) before hitting me in the chest.. It really didnt hurt all that bad...

I was doing about 70 when a bird dropped out of nowhere and I hit it head on in my helmet. It felt like a small bean bag... very obsorbant. The only problem I saw was the fact that the beak which had actually gone through my shield was keeping the bird from dropping off the side, and it was still alive.

180km/h is what, like 40 mph? I hit birds at twice that speed.

180kph is 112mph. I'd hate to hit a bird at 224mph, thats going to hurt

I don't know about birds, but I was hit by a sizeable chunk of asphalt that was somehow kicked up on the highway when I was doing about 120-130. It blew through my windscreen like paper and hit me in the chest. Luckily I was wearing my leather jacket!
