Cool Ok, how often do you come across THIS on a ride?

Ok, so I went on a just about day long ride today, that if the 2 Live Crew were made up of sportbikers, they would have released "As SQUIDLY As They Wanna Be"! It was nuts, all sorts of stuff. So much, that I'm not even going to get into it because it will likely start a flame war with all the blow hards!

Anyway, much to our short moments of non-squidly credit, we kept blowing up and down a curvy road by some relatively obscure airport, taking turns scraping pegs and all, so it wasn't that bad... So, at the end of the access road, check out what we found parked at the non-fashionable end of the airport:

Nice specimen of a B-17. Wonder if its still flyable or if its just a static display model. Woder if those are actualy guns mounted in all the turrets or just barrels. Regardless nice find.

It's flyable... I checked out the history of it online and cross referenced it with the FAA registry.

Interestingly enough, there's a place out here in MA where you can actually fly in one... all for the mere price of $2,400 for 30 minutes...

I'll bet the guns are real, but incapable of firing anything. The people who restore these planes are generally super-anal with detail.

Oh yeah, in case you're interested...

Nice flying-fortress I will agree. In Alberta Cdn we had simply thousands of Lancasters & these were the gals that carried massive loads of bombs & not all the self-defense guns like the B-17.

The Lancaster was no luxery aircraft for the crews, compared to the B-17.

We heard of so many stores of when the Brits or Cdns were envited over to the American bases of the good food your chaps had & the luxery of the B-17 vs the Lancasters or the fighter-bomber Mosquitoes. After all our head mechanic was pilot of a Baufighter & finally a number of Mosquito, while Taffy, our part-time mechanic, was a navigator on a Lancaseter.

Let a few of those guys get togeather & talk about funny stores though so often about death as well.

Sort of tells you why they were m/cists as well.
