Starter problems...maybe?

So about a week ago, I washed my bike before I left for vacation to Las Vegas. When I came back, very eager to ride the bike, I put the key in, pressed the ignition switch and all I heard was the starter spinning. No engine turning over, no nothing, just the loud whirring noise of the starter spinning like crazy. Do you guys think that maybe the pinion gear at the end of the starter motor is basically fucked? I dunno, I feel like this is gonna be expensive....

Maybe eliminate the cheapest issue first. Do you use your e-stop? Is it on or could it have stuck on?

i have a couple of friends that seem to be having trouble with their starters on their 03 R6, but says that it just seems to be a random thing that happens here and there espeically when the don't ride them for awhile......i would have it checked out to see if there might be something major wrong........a side note, has anyone heard of all the new 05 GSX-Rs having trouble similar to this.....there is a couple of people around town that have told me that there starters seem to want to keep trying to turn the bike over after it has started....yet most of them are too cocky to ask if there might be something wrong....let me know if anyone hears anything....

Sounds like the pinion gear is not sliding on the shaft. Prolly cause of rust from the wash. Pull off the starter inspect, clean, and lube with silicon or WD40.

A few ccs short of a full litre.
