Hello,

I am having problems making an informed decision on a quality SIDE-MOUNT steering damper for my 1996 GSXR-SRAD 750 sporbike. This year gixxer came with no stock damper on the bike and there are no pre-drilled holes for the damper(I would have to drill the frame). Hardly any bike shops have dampers on display so I will have buy thru mail order. I am not a racer. I am a street rider but on the freeway I like to one hand drive and I don't want any surprise tank-slappers. I DO NOT WANT A TOP MOUNT. So far my choices are,,,,,,
1.White Power damper by White Brothers.
2.Daytona Traklock by Lockhart Phillips.
3.Street & Comps' side mount blue damper.

Which dampers are good? Thanks for any advice.

Ray

my buddy's former racer turned back into a street bike has a white power stablizer. it's a quality, i had one for my f2 (couldn't mount it up though). it's a good damper.

anyway, he riveted a mount on his frame since 96 also doesn't have a mounted spot either.

the only down side is you lose your steering lock.

Ray66, I mounted a Ohlins unit on a friend's 96 GSXR750 with a kit from Lockhart, that used what they called a revnut. Only requires 1 hole be drilled and comes with all the hdwre. to mount the damper to the frame. You will need a fork tube bracket, as well. If you do it properly on your SUZ you should still be able to get full lock both ways. It may take some time to figure it out or have some shop w/experience do it.

just a thought, but for the cost difference between and ohlins and a wp, you can buy a few sprint races.

Just FYI, the White Power damper is manufactured by White Power Performance out of the Netherlands not White Brothers Performance here in the states. It is an excellent damper and is relatively inexpensive. It is used alot in GP racing as are some of there shocks and forks. You might try www.1888fastlap.com for a good price. I have one on my R1 and have no complaints. Just curious why not a top mount?
