1999 Speed Triple or 2003 919?

Those are my options. The Triple is going to 6 grand, non-negotiable and has a custom exhaust. The 919 is going for 6700, but that seems a bit high and I think I could talk him down. The Triple has the miles that you would expect on an '02, though: only 5500.

What do you guys think? Does age alone affect a bike if there are very few miles on it?

Speed Triple ALL the way, so much more personality IMHO. Love the frame and cosmetics, great engine and suspension, and such attitude.

Only reason to go with the Honda is if you don't have a Triumph dealer/support in your area.

Sorry, just saw your last question. No I wouldn't worry about the age of the bike esp. if it was in a garage. Exposure to sun/rain/elements is a bitch to a bike but a garage will slow aging 90%. If the 99 Triumph looks good and runs good it is fine.

Yea, that Triple was adult owned and garaged. I wish he would come down a couple hundred since 6 grand is about $800 over Blue Book, but I don't think it's that unreasonable.

Triumph Speed Four

Not to confuse the issue, but what about a BRAND NEW Triumph Speed Four? At $6499 MSRP, that's right at about your budget.

Motorcyclist magazine loved the bike:

Not enough torque. I don't really like bikes that you have to wind up a whole lot.

I think I am actually going to go with the 919. Yes, the Triple is a better bike, but for the same price I can get a 919 that's only a year old and hasn't even been broken in yet.

Torque

I hear ya. I don't think I'd every own a bike anymore that didn't have a good amount of low-end.

New 919 for $6000

Came across an ad a local dealer has here for a brand new 2002 CB 919 for $5995.

Not sure about where you are or the logistics of shipping but thought it might be of interest:

Damn, that's a hell of a deal! It's amazing how much sport bikes drop in price. Just because of the whole "Race on Sunday, sell on Monday" philosophy, I guess. My cruiser was worth a lot more then the 919 I bought, and the MSRPs on both were about the same.

Oh yea, so I already picked up a 919. I almost got a deal that good.
