Check your ZX12! (and others)

I was riding the 12 last week. Was stopped at a light, and started waggling my bars a little. I very quickly noticed that the bars would turn all the way to the left, but no further to the right than a couple degrees off staright ahead. After SLOWLY pulling into a gas station, I searched for the cause of this problem. Turned out that the lower nut which secures the top fairing mount to the front of the steering head had come out. When it did, it fell into the sweep of the steering head, and blocked it from turning to the right. After a few seconds of contemplating "what if that light had been green, and I had went on through and attempted a quick lane change?" , I went back home and redid both nuts with loctite.

Now, my bike has 65k miles on it, but that particular set of nuts has never been removed.

Good idea to check the nuts, bolts, and screws that hold your bike together. Remember if you cause a fastener to move by checking it, you should tacke it out, loctite it, and replace it

DO NOT use loctite on any fasteners that pass through plastic
bodywork parts, as the fumes will make the plastic brittle.

Wow, nice catch. That could have turned out to be a little unpleasant.

WARNING
If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all who claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think everything you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told you should want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex. Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic. You have been warned...... Tyler
