radio announces another m/c crash

Here in the bay area, I ALWAYS hear of at least one m/c accident on the morning traffic report "slowing down" traffic. To most, it's another slow commute, but to me, it's a fellow rider thats had a bad day.

Is this mostly from lane splitting? Is it the big cruisers that get caught between cars? Anyone have to experience in these morning commute crashes? Prayers to those who paid the ultimate price...

My wife and I lived in that area for a while. I only saw two bike crashes while riding there. One was me totaling my XX on the way home from work when guy turned left in front of me giving me nowhere to go but his passenger side door, and the other was a guy splitting traffic in front of me getting hit by a car changing lanes. I think splitting can be the cause of it if people are splitting when they shouldn't be. I never did if there was any way for cars to change lanes. I pretty much only split lanes when it was a parking lot. I think the bulk of the problems I saw were cars rear-ending each other trying to keep the gap between them small so nobody cut them off. There are just too many people there in general, so there is bound to be more car wrecks. Too many people and too expensive....that's why we live in Indiana now.

Indiana!!!

Yeah...it's really a mad house out here and getting worse. Average cost to buy a house: $425,000
Average # of cars crossing each bridge: 500,000
Cost of etting the hell out of bay area: priceless

Gonna make my $$, save it, then move to where its cheap yet beautiful.

After living in the Bay Area for 25 years, I can honestly say that I don't miss CA, and will never live there again.

Too many people, too many rude people, too expensive.

My mom commutes on Vasco every day, and she says that every week there is at least one fatality on that road. I think that a lot of the wrecks there have many contributing factors:

- Too many people for the infastructure to handle
- Too many people not paying attention to the road
- Too many people driving angry
- Motorcyclists doing wheelies while splitting traffic (yes, I have seen this!)
- Motorcyclists talking on their cell phones while riding (have seen this, too!)

That's just a few off the top of my head.

I've wrecked during my morning commute. Last Monday it was. Entered into some construction and the SUV in front of me got scared and slammed on the brakes. I locked my brakes in panic and laid it down. Never got the name of the guy who stopped to see if I was alive.

We just lost three riders at once a few weeks ago. The season here has barely even started and we are already down three riders.
