Tires too old for riding?

How old is too old for tires. What happens to old tires? How does this affect their performance ridibility? What effects does dry rotting have and what does it indicate?

Many factors. Exactly how old. Where were they stored? Were they on a bike that was resting on them? Did you put anything on them before you stored them? When they dry rot they will get hard and begin to crack. First things first. If you are that unsure is it really worth the risk? If you do decide to use them i would recommend going to a dealership and ask someone in the service department to inspect them as they are experienced in these issues.

I ask the Bridgestone rep that exact question. He said he would not recommend anything older than 2 to 3 years. But they actually warrant the side walls from cracking for 7 years. Everyday they set on the shelf or whever they loose a certin amount of grip and or reliability.
