New rider/sportbike!

I'm 18 years old...I have wanted a sportbike ever since I was 16. I have suped up car that can fly! but it still doesn't compare to a sporbike! well, I've put my mind to it, and i'm finally going to get one in the next year. What should i get?...i'm a new rider, but i want something FAST! I went by a yamaha and kawasaki store and they said that i should get one of the slower ones...but i don't want to get it and then feel that it is too slow after i get used to it...what are ya'lls suggestions?...I'll probably get a used bike too...

Get a used CBR600. There perfect bikes for beginners and guys with experience. Actually for the price, if you can find an old Honda Hurricane, they'll still hold there own, but you can find them significantly cheaper. Don't forget you will wreck/drop your first bike. It's just a matter of when and where.

Here we go again (a 9R for a first bike)?
Listen to your dealer-sounds like he wants you to be around for your future business!
You seem to have distilled motorycling down to 2 things: slow and fast! You do realize there is a lot more to it than that? There have been numerous threads in here for newbies, so check out a few of 'em, and use your head!

Unhappy

Not ANOTHER one?!?

Ninjastud, please take to heart what you read in the threads basicblurr posted. There's a few centuries worth of experience in these threads, and despite what you think, you're not "that one" who is the exception.

I hear the busa is a good beginner bike.

Seriously though, don't get anything bigger than a 600, and even those go like a raped ape! Just think of it this way a new 600 can probably get to 90 before your tricked out whatever can even hit 60. Use your head and listen to what people have said in those other threads!

Whatever you do get, don't forget the additional cost for sensible riding gear, which at a mininimum should be a full-face helmet and purpose-built jacket, gloves, and boots.

With a name like "Ninjastud," you should also consider some of those "Porn Star" decals for your bike.

Each one adds at least 2 hp, right? And the shiny ones are good for 2.5 hp extra?

Not hp, inches.

sportbike stickers

I tried those Porn Star stickers. I found a better one though: stickers with a bent over naked girl in chains with FREE SPANKINGS in big sparkly letters. Get some easy-off velcro gloves, you'll thank me later!

The slowest sportbike, even a 500, will most likely outrun your FAST sportscar. Think about that.

ANY of the 600's will beat most sportscars in acceleration, I guarantee it.

So when you say you want something "FAST", any sportbike is fast, from the 500 to the 1300. Their only limiting factors are their riders--YOU! So don't go around thinking something like a ZX9R is THE bike for you 'cause it's fast. Chances are good you'll crash that thing. I think even a 600 is too fast for someone who's just starting out.

I highly suggest you get a Bandit 600 or an SV650 first. Although even those might be too much for you even if you think you're a "fast learner". It takes at least a year and many thousands of miles to really get good on a bike. When you've only been riding a few months and few thousand miles, and you think you know it all already, that's when something comes back to bite you. Put your ego aside and listen to the veterans that have ridden thousands of miles and have seen many puppies like you crash their expensive sportbikes!
